Last saturday I went to TW Classic (had some free tickets). It ain’t ‘the real thing’ (which is Rock Werchter -next week), but we had some good fun, especially with Brian Wilson’s pathetic attempt to recycle the old Beach Boys hits, despite the fact that he’s not even capable of snapping his fingers to the beat.
Minister of Rock ‘n Roll, Lenny Kravitz couldn’t resist beging sarcastic (”…Duran Duran..living Legends? Lord, have mercy!…”), but he was wrong and Duran Duran was the surprise of the day nonetheless. It was like being teleported back to 1987: Simon Le Bon in full eighties outfit (black pants, white vest, shiny accessories, retro haircut), the rest of the band in black leather pants … the reflex was still there. I suppose the time is right for a comeback. Gabriel Rios gave a strong performance, but especially Joost Zwegers from Novastar gave himself completely on stage and we loved it.

I saw this girl on Isla del Sol (”Island of the Sun”). Isla del Sol is the largest island on the Titicaca-lake, the highest commercially navigable lake in the world. Inca legend says that Viracocha, the god who created the universe, emerged from the waters of lake Titicaca and created the sun at this location.
On one of the islands of the lake, we came across some kids playing soccer. They wanted to play against us but we thought it would be unfair, because we were much taller, much stronger and most of us had played soccer when they were younger. We finally agreed and that was a major mistake. Although there’s water around you, as far as you can see and no real mountains (you think you’re somewhere on an island at sea-level), you’re actually playing soccer at an altitude of 3.821 meters high! After a couple of minutes we were totally exhausted, I mean, hyperventilating like hell, and today kids are probably still telling the story of the strange red-faced guys from Europe who thought they could play soccer.

This is actually an imitation of a famous photo by Jeanloup Sieff.
